***** DEADLINE SEPT. 28 for FEMA, SBA:

Time is running out to apply for federal disaster assistance if you had damage or losses from the July 2-18 storms and flooding.

The application period ends Sunday, Sept. 28, for those affected by flooding in Kerr, a well as several other Central Texas counties.

There is no cost to apply for FEMA assistance, which may help with serious disaster-related needs including temporary housing and replacement of essential personal property when the damage is not covered by insurance. Grants may also cover disaster-related funeral, medical, dental, moving-and-storage and childcare expenses including money to replace damaged appliances and furnishings.

FEMA works closely with the U.S. Small Business Administration, which provides disaster loans to homeowners, renters, nonprofit organizations and businesses of all sizes. The deadline to apply for a long-term, low-interest SBA disaster loan is also Sept. 28.

The fastest way to apply for FEMA is online at DisasterAssistance.gov. You may also use the FEMA mobile app or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. Helpline specialists speak many languages and lines are open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. If you use a relay service, captioned telephone or other service, you can give FEMA your number for that service.

To apply for a loan from the Small Business Administration, go to SBA.gov/disaster. You may also call SBA’s Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955 or email DisasterCustomerService@sba.gov.

***** DEBRIS COLLECTION EFFORTS IN FULL FORCE:
The efforts to clean up the Guadalupe River are in full swing. More than 1 MILLION cubic yards has been removed and taken to 1 of 3 sites in Kerr County for disposal.

TOTAL debris collected through end of day Thursday, Sept. 11:
1,171,000 CUBIC YARDS

(That is enough to fill 18 White Houses or 85% of the Empire State Building. It is about 117,100 dump truck loads and, if stacked as a 6-foot tall by 3-foot wide wall, it would stretch from Hunt, Texas, all the way down to the tip of the state at Brownsville, Texas.)
