Tax Office plans Sept. 3 reopening back in Kerr County Courthouse

The Kerr County Tax Assessor-Collector’s office is planning to move back to the Kerr County Courthouse, 700 Main Street in Kerrville, and be open to serving citizens in that location starting Thursday, Sept. 3.

No interruption of service will be experienced on Wednesday, Sept. 2, when staff members plan to move their furniture and equipment back into Suite 124, said Kerr County Tax Assessor-Collector Bob Reeves. That is because normal tax office functions will continue to be provided by the West Kerr County Courthouse Annex, located at 510 College Street in Ingram.

“There will, however, be limited staff available in the Ingram office, so we appreciate the public’s patience as there may be longer wait times involved while we serve their needs,” Reeves added.

Additionally, the move is contingent on the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) being able to perform all the needed technology updates, he said.

Since the July 16 flood severely damaged the lower level of the courthouse, the entire facility has been closed to the public and all offices housed there have been working in temporary locations.

The Kerr County Tax Assessor-Collector’s office merged with its satellite facility in Ingram. That facility will return to its normal operating hours once the Kerrville staff have moved successfully back to their normal space.

Please note that public access to the courthouse will continue to be restricted and limited to only the first floor and the offices that have officially reopened.

In order to satisfy ADA-compliance, county departments located on the second floor will make their return only after the courthouse’s main elevator is repaired. Kerr County commissioners meeting Monday, Aug. 24, approved a contract for that work to start.

Discussions are under way to plan what the future will hold for all the departments who were located in the courthouse’s basement, which was impacted the most directly by the floodwaters that topped six feet in that area.
