Nov. 22 event at Flatrock to mark community’s strength, resilience

Kerr County, Texas, has invited everyone in the community and their guests to attend a special event on Saturday, Nov. 22, when a tree and granite marker will be dedicated and unveiled in the county’s Flatrock Park, located at 3840 Riverside Drive in Kerrville (behind the Hill Country Youth Event Center.)

Starting at 4 p.m., a large Red Oak tree will be dedicated along the banks of the Guadalupe River. Adjacent to it, a three-foot by three-foot red granite marker will be unveiled as a monument to this community’s spirit – which has risen above the July 4 flood.

The marker, which was generously donated by Boulder Designs of Fredericksburg, will be etched with the inscription: “A Living Memorial of Resilience – July 4, 2025. Dedicated on Nov. 22, 2025.”

The tree, which is expected to grow to more than 50 feet and will definitely add to an area where the flood stripped many trees away, has been donated by Mosty Brothers Nursery of Center Point. Transportation of the tree and planting it this week in preparation of the upcoming event was provided by a crew from Maldonado Nursery and Landscape located nearby in Kerrville.

The Spirit of Liberty Foundation has organized this unveiling and dedication ceremony. Expected to attend are many Kerr County and area civic, community and religious leaders. Additionally, invitations have been extended to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. John Cornyn and Cong. Chip Roy.

Kerr County elected leaders urge everyone who can attend the brief ceremony to do so.

It is important, they said, so that we can continue to do what we’ve been doing since that devastating flood struck on July 4 and turned our worlds upside down – coming together as a community to support those adversely impacted by the flood and showing that, together, we can rise above the natural disaster and recover stronger and better in the future.

We are #KerrCountyStrong.
