Labor Day to bring closures; but debris collection/search efforts will take no holiday
Most Kerr County, Texas, offices and departments will be closing their doors in observance of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 1.
While the one-day closures will not impact any emergency services, such as law enforcement fire or EMS, it will mean that offices will be closed in the Kerr County Courthouse, 700 Main Street in Kerrville, at the West Kerr County Courthouse Annex, 510 College Street in Ingram, and at the county’s 550 Earl Garrett Street facility.
Recovery efforts along the Guadalupe River to locate the two remaining July 4 flood victims will continue uninterrupted.
Additionally, flood debris collection efforts will continue uninterrupted through the holiday. Those traveling local roadways are urged to be extra cautious – not only because of the anticipated increase in holiday weekend traffic, but also because of the heavy equipment and big debris collection trucks that need extra space and stopping distance.
Business hours will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 2. To learn normal operating hours for a specific department, please refer to that department’s individual webpage found under the “Departments” menu on the county website: www.kerrcountytx.gov.
Labor Day celebrates and recognizes the American labor movement, as well as the works and contributions made by laborers to the development and achievement of the United States.
The first Labor Day holiday was observed on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. In 1894, Congress passed a bill recognizing the first Monday of September as Labor Day and made it a holiday for federal workers. All U.S. states and territories now observe it as a statutory holiday.
After Labor Day, the next holiday to be observed by the local county government will be Columbus Day on Monday, Oct. 13.
