Kerr County to Close Monday, Jan. 15 - Martin Luther King Day
Most county governmental offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 15, in keeping with the nationwide observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday.
Departments whose doors will be shut for the one-day break include those in the Kerr County Courthouse, 700 Main Street in Kerrville, and the West Kerr County Courthouse Annex, 510 College Street in Ingram.
Emergency services, such as law enforcement, fire and EMS will continue without interruption.
Likewise, since the Kerr County Commissioners’ Court usually meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month and this holiday falls on the third Monday of January, no interruption in the court’s regular schedule is anticipated.
All departments will resume their normal hours of operation on Tuesday, Jan. 16. For specific hours, which vary by department, see the individual department’s page on the county website: www.kerrcountytx.gov.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day, otherwise known as “MLK Day” honors the Jan. 15 birth date of the man who served as this nation’s primary advocate for nonviolent activism during the Civil Rights Movement, which protested racial discrimination in federal and state laws.
President Ronald Reagan made the federal holiday official by signing it into law in 1983, and it was first observed on Jan. 20, 1986. It is observed on the third Monday of each January.
In addition to the Jan. 15 holiday, county elected leaders have already approved the following holiday closings schedule:
Feb. 19 (Monday) – Presidents Day
March 29 (Friday) – Good Friday
May 27 (Monday) – Memorial Day
July 4 (Thursday) – Independence Day
Sept. 2 (Monday) – Labor Day
The remainder of the 2024 and part of the 2025 holiday schedule for Kerr County, Texas, will be considered and approved late in the summer as part of the budget cycle.
