Kerr County and Kendall County veterans, their elderly caregivers and senior citizens aged 60 years old or older will have the opportunity to learn about additional support they may receive during a joint event planned Wednesday, May 6, at the Kerr County Veterans Service Office, 550 Earl Garrett Street in Kerrville.

The American Legion Post 208 (Kerrville), Gunny’s Warriors, Together With Hill Country Veterans and the Alamo Area Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging will be joining the Kerr County Veterans Service Office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the area outside the Allie Burton Annex for this event to assist local veterans.

Veterans and senior citizens in the community (60 years +) will learn how they may be eligible for assistance with:

  • Income Support (for utility bills, such as electricity, water, gas, etc.)

  • Health – For items to promote or maintain health and safety, such as durable medical equipment, nutritional supplements, glasses, hearing aids, basic dental care, disposable undergarments, disposable pads, adult wipes, bed pads, gloves, etc.

  • Residential Repair – For minor home modifications to promote and maintain health and safety, such as grab bars, handrails, tub cuts, some small appliances, ramps, etc.

“Those who are in need of disaster relief assistance can receive help with utility bills, minor home repairs, items to promote or maintain health and safety and groceries,” said Kerr County Veterans Service Officer Jenna Sanchez.

“We are thankful for this partnership with these local organizations, because ultimately it means our local veterans and elderly community residents will receive more care,” Sanchez added. “Together, our agencies will work to connect these individuals with the resources that are tailored to their needs.”

Those who need additional assistance are encouraged to call the Kerr County VSO at 830-792-2203. The team will guide callers through the application process and ensure they are connected to the appropriate AACOG programs.

The Kerr County Veterans Service Office is located in Suite 107 of the Allie Burton Annex at 550 Earl Garrett Street in Kerrville. It is open Mondays through Thursdays. While walk-ins are welcome, those with appointments are given priority. It may also be reached by emailing: veterans.service@veterans.kerrcountytx.gov.
