Kerr County residents are being asked to roll up their sleeves and save lives by participating in the upcoming, Monday, Sept. 9.
Participating blood donors will receive two complimentary movie tickets to the Rio 10 Cinema in Kerrville for their help in the drive, which is planned by South Texas Blood & Tissue in the Happy State Bank Expo Hall of the Hill Country Youth Event Center, 3785 TX-27 in Kerrville.

All blood types are needed, especially the O+ and O- types. Texans, including those who live in areas outside metropolitan cities, are being called upon to help rebuild the state’s blood supply. Typically, there are blood supply shortages during the summer months, but this year’s supply has been depleted more than usual because of the after effects of the hurricane striking the gulf coast areas.
Blood donors must be 16 years old, weigh 120 pounds and present a signed parental consent form or be 17 years or older and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors must also be in good general health and present a valid photo ID at the time of donation.
Certain prescription medications prevent donors from completing the process. A list of those medications is available on the South Texas Blood & Tissue website HERE.
Also included on the site is a step-by-step description of the donation process, providing donors with information on how to prepare, what to expect during their donation experience and how to recover well after giving.
